1 Kings 4:19 describes Geber the son of Uri as an officer appointed by King Solomon to oversee the region of Gilead, which included the territories formerly ruled by Sihon king of the Amorites and Og king of Bashan.

Geber was specifically responsible for the Gilead region, reflecting Solomon’s effective delegation of governance responsibilities to maintain order and stability across the kingdom.

Geber the son of Uri was in the country of Gilead, in the country of Sihon king of the Amorites, and of Og king of Bashan; and he was an officer which was in the land.

Context: 1 Kings 4:19 is part of a larger passage that describes the organisation of King Solomon’s administration.

Context: 1 Kings 4:19 is part of a larger passage that lists the officials serving under King Solomon.

Geographical Significance: Gilead lay east of the Jordan River.

Earlier biblical narratives describe the same general region as having been under the control of Sihon, king of the Amorites, and Og, king of Bashan, although those names do not appear in this verse.

Leadership and Administration: Solomon’s administration assigned capable officials to various districts.

By placing Geber in charge of the Gileadites, Solomon ensured local governance aligned with his overall policies.

This verse records Geber as the officer responsible for the Gileadites.

Geber the son of Uri, that was over the Gileadites, in the country of the Amorrhites of the east, and of the Medes.

Unity and Stability: The appointment of officials such as Geber helped extend Solomon’s authority throughout the kingdom, promoting order and cohesion across its diverse territories.

Faithfulness and Diligence: As the officer over the Gileadites, Geber was entrusted with significant responsibilities, reflecting the confidence placed in him to manage the affairs of the region.
