1 Kings 6:14
So Solomon built the house, and finished it. 1 Kings 6:14 (KJV)
The verse is part of the description of the construction of the temple in Jerusalem, commonly called Solomon’s Temple. King Solomon, the son of David, was the one who undertook the building of the house of God.
Solomon initiated and oversaw the work, taking great care in planning and execution. He devoted significant time, resources, and skilled craftsmen to the project, ensuring meticulous attention to every element.
The temple’s construction was a pivotal event in Israel’s history. It symbolized God’s dwelling among His people, served as the central place for worship and sacrifices, and reflected the sacred relationship between God and His covenant nation.
The building began in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign (1 Kings 6:1) and was completed in the eleventh year, a period of seven years of dedicated effort. While the main structure was finished as recorded in 1 Kings 6:14, certain elements such as the copper work were not completed until after Pharaoh’s daughter moved into the palace, as noted in 1 Kings 9:25. This timeline highlights the extensive resources, skilled labor, and careful detail involved.
The completion of the temple illustrates the importance of perseverance and dedication. Just as Solomon remained faithful to the task, believers are called to be diligent in their spiritual journey, remaining steadfast in service to God. Through such commitment we participate in the realization of God’s plans for His people.
The temple stands as a reminder that God values faithful labor. When we apply the same perseverance to our relationship with Him, we experience the fulfillment of His purposes in our lives.
