Listen to this article

“Of which salvation the prophets have inquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you.”

Context:The book of 1 Peter was written by the apostle Peter to encourage and strengthen Christians who were facing trials and persecution. In this particular verse, Peter reflects on the salvation that believers have received and highlights the prophetic nature of their salvation.

The Prophets’ Inquiry:Peter mentions that the prophets of the Old Testament inquired and searched diligently about the salvation that would be revealed in the future. The prophets had a deep longing to understand the grace that God would bestow upon His people.

Prophesied of the Grace:The prophets, through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, prophesied about the coming grace that would be manifested through Jesus Christ. They spoke of the Messiah who would bring salvation and redemption to God’s people.

Application of the Verse:

  • Appreciation for Salvation: This verse reminds us of the incredible privilege we have as believers to experience the fullness of God’s grace and salvation. We should never take it for granted but rather appreciate and value the depth of what God has done for us through Jesus Christ.
  • Diligent Study: Just as the prophets diligently searched and inquired about the salvation that was to come, we should also be diligent in studying and understanding God’s Word. The Bible contains the revelation of God’s grace and salvation, and through the study of Scripture, we can gain a deeper understanding of His plan for humanity.
  • Gratitude for the Prophets: We should have gratitude for the prophets of the Old Testament who faithfully proclaimed God’s message and paved the way for the fulfillment of salvation through Jesus Christ. Their prophecies were instrumental in preparing the hearts and minds of people for the coming of the Messiah.

Reflection Questions:

  • How does the knowledge of the prophets’ inquiry and search for salvation impact your appreciation for the grace you have received through Jesus Christ?
  • In what ways can you be more diligent in studying and understanding God’s Word?
  • How can you express gratitude for the prophets of the Old Testament and their contribution to God’s plan of salvation?

Remember, studying the Bible is a lifelong journey, and it is beneficial to delve deeper into the surrounding verses and consult commentaries or study guides to gain a richer understanding of the passage.
