“Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory.”

Context:The book of 1 Peter was written by the Apostle Peter to encourage and strengthen early Christian believers who were facing persecution and trials. In this particular verse, Peter emphasizes the believers’ love for Christ, even though they have not physically seen Him.

  • Love for Christ:Peter highlights the remarkable love that believers have for Jesus, even though they have not seen Him with their physical eyes. This speaks to the deep and heartfelt devotion that followers of Christ can experience, which transcends mere physical appearances.
  • Faith in Christ:The verse continues by emphasizing that, despite not seeing Jesus, believers still believe in Him. Faith plays a crucial role in the Christian walk, as it is the foundation of our relationship with God. This verse encourages believers to maintain their faith in Christ, even in the face of trials and hardships.
  • Rejoicing with joy unspeakable:Peter further describes the response of believers to their faith in Christ. Despite the challenges they face, believers experience an indescribable joy that comes from knowing and believing in Jesus. This joy is not dependent on external circumstances but is rooted in the hope and salvation found in Christ.
  • Full of glory:The joy experienced by believers is described as being “full of glory.” This suggests that the joy is not superficial or temporary but carries a weight of honour, magnificence, and divine presence. It is a joy that surpasses human understanding and is infused with the glory of God.
