1 Samuel 2:10

The aduersaries of the Lord shalbe broken to pieces: out of heauen shal he thunder vpon them: the Lord shall iudge the ends of the earth, and he shal giue strength vnto his king, and exalt the horne of his Anointed. 1 Samuel 2:10 (KJV)

This verse belongs to the larger song of praise known as Hannah’s Song. It is a beautiful expression of gratitude and recognition of God’s power, sovereignty, and justice. Hannah declares that those who oppose or rebel against the LORD will be broken in pieces, emphasizing that the power and authority of God are so great that no one can successfully stand against Him. The image of God thundering from heaven underscores divine intervention and the imminent judgment that will fall upon the adversaries.

“The LORD shall judge the ends of the earth” affirms that God’s judgment is not limited to Israel but extends to all corners of the world. This universal judgment highlights the LORD’s supreme authority over the whole creation.

“He shall give strength unto his king” acknowledges that God is the source of strength and power for the king He chooses. In the narrative this points forward to the future leaders of Israel, including the anointed king that Samuel would later appoint, showing that divine empowerment guides the nation’s rulers.

“And exalt the horn of his anointed” uses the biblical symbol of the “horn” to represent strength, honor, and authority. The phrase indicates that God will elevate and establish the authority and influence of His chosen ones, empowering the appointed leaders of His people.

Overall, 1 Samuel 2:10 underscores God’s power over His adversaries, His role as the universal judge, and His provision of strength to the king and exaltation of the anointed. The passage reminds believers of God’s sovereignty, faithfulness, and ability to overcome opposition and fulfill His will.
