Listen to this article

“So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us.”

Context:To understand the verse better, it’s essential to explore the context in which it is situated. The Apostle Paul wrote the letter of 1 Thessalonians to the church in Thessalonica. In this particular passage, Paul is reminding the Thessalonian believers of his conduct among them during his visit.

Affectionate Desire:Paul begins by expressing his affectionate desire for the Thessalonians. He genuinely cared for them and had a deep longing to be with them. His love for the Thessalonians was not merely superficial but heartfelt and genuine.

Willingness to Impart:Paul’s love for the Thessalonians was demonstrated in his willingness to impart not only the gospel of God but also his own soul. The phrase “imparted unto you” implies sharing or giving something of value. Paul was ready to give them more than just the message of the gospel; he was willing to invest himself personally in their lives.

Not Just the Gospel:Paul emphasizes that he was not merely focused on preaching the gospel to the Thessalonians but also on sharing his own life with them. This implies that Paul was deeply committed to the Thessalonians and wanted to establish a genuine relationship with them. He wanted to be personally involved in their spiritual growth and well-being.

Dear unto Us:The reason behind Paul’s willingness to share his life with the Thessalonians was that they were dear to him. The phrase “ye were dear unto us” indicates the strong affection and love Paul had for the believers in Thessalonica. They held a special place in his heart, and he valued their relationship.

Overall, this verse highlights Paul’s genuine love and care for the Thessalonian believers. He desired to not only share the gospel with them but also to invest his life in their spiritual growth. This passage reminds us of the importance of building deep, loving relationships within the church and the value of investing ourselves in the lives of others.
