Listen to this article

“Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.”

This verse is part of the Apostle Paul’s first letter to Timothy, in which he provides guidance and instructions for Timothy’s ministry. Let’s break down the verse and explore its meaning:

“Who only hath immortality”:This phrase refers to God, emphasizing His unique nature as the one who possesses immortality. God alone is eternally existing and is not subject to death or decay. It highlights His divine and transcendent nature.

“Dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto”:This phrase underscores the holiness and glory of God. The “light” mentioned here symbolizes God’s divine presence and radiance. It signifies that God’s dwelling place is in a realm of unparalleled brilliance and purity, beyond the reach of human beings.

“Whom no man hath seen, nor can see”:This statement emphasizes the incomprehensibility of God’s nature. While God has revealed Himself to humanity in various ways, including through His creation, His Word, and ultimately through Jesus Christ, His full glory remains beyond human capacity to behold. It acknowledges the limitations of human understanding in perceiving the fullness of God’s being.

“To whom be honour and power everlasting”:This phrase declares the eternal and absolute sovereignty of God. It acknowledges that God alone deserves honour and power for all eternity. It reminds believers to ascribe reverence, respect, and praise to God, recognising His authority and majesty.

“Amen”:This concluding word serves as an affirmation, expressing agreement and affirmation of the truths presented in the verse.

Overall, 1 Timothy 6:16 emphasises the divine and majestic nature of God, highlighting His immortality, incomprehensibility, and everlasting power. It calls believers to honour and revere Him, acknowledging His unmatched glory and eternal authority.
