1 Timothy 6:3

Listen to this article

“If any man teach otherwise and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness…”

Context:The apostle Paul wrote the first letter to Timothy, his fellow worker and a leader in the church at Ephesus. This letter contains instructions for church order, pastoral duties, and the importance of sound doctrine.

Teach Otherwise:Paul warns about people who teach or promote doctrines that deviate from the truth. In the preceding verses, he addresses false teachers who were engrossed in controversies, promoting divisive speculations, and causing disputes. These individuals were not adhering to the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Wholesome Words:Paul emphasises the significance of teaching “wholesome” or sound words, which align with the teachings of Jesus. These words are truthful, pure, and beneficial for the spiritual growth of believers. They promote godly living, faith, love, and holiness.

Doctrine According to Godliness:Paul emphasises the importance of adhering to the doctrine that is in line with godliness. True doctrine, consistent with the teachings of Jesus, guides believers towards living a life that reflects the character of God. It encourages righteousness, humility, and a deep reverence for God.
