2 Chronicles 15:15

“And all Judah rejoiced at the oath: for they had sworn with all their heart, and sought him with their whole desire; and he was found of them: and the LORD gave them rest round about.”

Context:The book of 2 Chronicles is a historical account of the kings of Judah, focusing primarily on the religious aspects of their reigns. Chapter 15 describes the reforms implemented by King Asa of Judah to restore the worship of God and remove idolatry from the land.

Rejoicing in the oath:The verse begins by saying that all Judah rejoiced at the oath. This refers to a solemn covenant or oath that the people had made with the Lord. They had committed themselves to seek the Lord wholeheartedly and to follow His commandments.

Wholehearted seeking:The people of Judah had sworn with all their heart and sought the Lord with their whole desire. This emphasizes their sincere and genuine commitment to seek God and to worship Him alone. It reflects their repentance and turning away from the idols and false gods that had led them astray.

• Wholehearted seeking:The verse encourages us to seek God with all our hearts, not half-heartedly or superficially. Our relationship with God should be characterised by sincerity, commitment, and a genuine desire to know Him.
• Repentance and removal of idols:Just as the people of Judah turned away from idols and false gods, we should examine our lives and identify anything that takes precedence over God. We need to repent of our sins and remove anything that hinders our relationship with Him.
• God’s response:When we seek God sincerely, He promises to be found by us. This verse reminds us of God’s faithfulness in responding to our genuine seeking and repentance. He offers us His presence, guidance, and peace.
• Rest in God:As the Lord gave rest to the people of Judah, He offers us rest in Him as also. In the midst of life’s challenges and turmoil, we can find peace and security by trusting in God and relying on His strength.

2 Chronicles 15:15 teaches us the importance of wholeheartedly seeking God, the assurance that He responds to our sincere seeking, and the blessings that come from a restored relationship with Him.
