2 Chronicles 15:2

Posted on 18 May at 11:37

“And he went out to meet Asa, and said unto him, Hear ye me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin; The LORD is with you, while ye be with him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you; but if ye forsake him, he will forsake you.”

This verse is part of a historical account of King Asa’s reign in Judah. During this time, the nation of Israel was divided into two kingdoms: the northern kingdom of Israel and the southern kingdom of Judah. King Asa was the king of Judah and was known for his religious reforms and seeking the Lord.

Historical Context:2 Chronicles 15:2 takes place after a period of idolatry and apostasy in Judah. Asa had recently removed the idols and altars of foreign gods from the land and repaired the altar of the Lord in the temple. Now, the prophet Azariah went out to meet Asa with a message from God.

  • God’s Presence:

The verse begins with the prophet addressing King Asa, as well as the people of Judah and Benjamin. The message conveyed is that the Lord is with them as long as they remain faithful to Him. This emphasizes the conditional nature of the covenant relationship between God and His people.

The Condition of Faithfulness:The verse states, “The LORD is with you while you be with him.” This statement implies that God’s presence and blessing are contingent upon the people’s faithfulness and obedience to Him. It emphasizes the importance of seeking and following God wholeheartedly.

The Promise of Finding God:The verse continues, “And if ye seek him, he will be found of you.” Here, God assures His people that if they earnestly seek Him, they will find Him. This demonstrates God’s willingness to reveal Himself and have a personal relationship with those who genuinely seek Him.

Consequences of Forsaking God:The verse concludes with a warning: “but if ye forsake him, he will forsake you.” This statement highlights the consequences of turning away from God and abandoning His ways. It implies that if the people of Judah forsake God and His commandments, they will experience the loss of His presence and protection.

Overall, 2 Chronicles 15:2 reminds us of the conditional nature of our relationship with God. God desires our faithfulness, obedience, and sincere seeking of Him. When we are committed to seeking God, we can be assured of His presence and guidance in our lives. However, if we forsake Him and turn away, we may experience a loss of His fellowship and the consequences that come with it. This verse serves as an exhortation for believers to remain steadfast in their devotion to God.
