2 Chronicles 2:9

Posted on 18 May at 11:38

Euen to prepare me timber in abundance: for the house which I am about to build, shalbe wonderfull great. 2 Chronicles 2:9 (KJV)

The book of 2 Chronicles records the history of the kings of Judah, especially the reigns of David’s descendants. 2 Chronicles 2:9 occurs in the dialogue between King Solomon of Israel and Hiram, king of Tyre. Solomon requests Hiram’s assistance in supplying the cedar timber and other materials needed for the temple that Solomon intends to build as a permanent dwelling place for the Lord.

Preparation – The verse emphasizes the importance of preparation. Solomon recognized that to build a magnificent house for the Lord he needed an abundance of timber. Likewise, in our spiritual lives we are called to prepare ourselves to serve God by seeking His wisdom, studying His Word, and cultivating a heart that is open and receptive to His leading.

God’s House – Solomon refers to the temple as “great and wonderful.” The temple was not merely a physical structure; it symbolized the dwelling place of God among His people. In the New Testament believers are described as the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19), reminding us that our bodies are now the dwelling place of God and that we should honor and serve Him in all that we do.

God’s Provision – Solomon sought Hiram’s assistance to obtain an abundance of timber. Similarly, when we are called to fulfill God’s purposes we can trust in His provision. God has abundant resources and blessings available for His children when they align their plans with His will. It is essential to seek His guidance and trust that He will supply what is needed to accomplish His purposes.

Excellence – Solomon desired to build a house that was not only functional but also remarkable in its beauty and greatness. This serves as a reminder that when we serve God we should strive for excellence. Whether in work, relationships, or ministries, we are called to give our best to honor God and bring glory to His name.

Application – Prepare yourself spiritually by dedicating time to reading and studying the Bible, seeking God’s wisdom, and cultivating a receptive heart. Recognize that you are God’s dwelling place; treat your body with reverence, knowing the Holy Spirit resides in you. Trust in God’s provision, having faith that He will supply the resources necessary for your calling. Pursue excellence in all you do, doing everything wholeheartedly for the glory of God. By applying these lessons from 2 Chronicles 2:9 we honor God and fulfill His purposes.
