2 Chronicles 20:18

Posted on 18 May at 11:38

“And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the Lord, worshipping the Lord.”

Certainly! Let’s dive into a Bible study on 2 Chronicles 20:18, using the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible.

Before we focus on the specific verse, it’s essential to provide some context. The passage comes from the Old Testament and is part of the account of a significant event during the reign of King Jehoshaphat of Judah. At this time, a vast army from multiple nations was advancing towards Judah to wage war against them. Overwhelmed by this threat, Jehoshaphat turned to God for help and called upon the people to seek the Lord’s guidance and intervention.

Now, let’s examine 2 Chronicles 20:18 (KJV) itself:

This verse describes the response of King Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah to the situation they faced. It highlights their humility, reverence, and worship of the Lord in the face of imminent danger.

Here are a few key lessons we can draw from this verse:

  • Humility before God: King Jehoshaphat exemplified humility by bowing his head with his face to the ground. This gesture of submission acknowledges that God is greater, wiser, and more powerful than any human being. It demonstrates that they were ready to submit themselves and their circumstances to God’s sovereignty.
  • Corporate worship: The people of Judah and Jerusalem followed the king’s example and fell before the Lord, worshipping Him. This act of collective worship emphasizes the unity of the community in seeking God’s help and direction. It shows the importance of coming together as a community to worship and seek God, especially during challenging times.
  • Trusting in God’s power: By worshiping the Lord, the people demonstrated their trust in God’s ability to deliver them. They acknowledged that their strength and victory would come from God alone. Instead of relying on their own resources or strategies, they placed their faith in God’s power and providence.
  • Prioritizing God in the face of adversity: Despite the impending threat of battle, Jehoshaphat and the people recognized the need to prioritize seeking God’s presence and guidance. Their act of worship revealed that they understood the significance of turning to God first before taking any other action.
