And thou shalt haue great sicknesse by disease of thy bowels, vntil thy bowels fall out, by reason of the sickenesse day by day. 2 Chronicles 21:15 (KJV)

And thou

shalt have great sickness by disease of thy bowels, until thy bowels fall out by reason of the sickness day by day. 2 Chronicles 21:15 (KJV)

2 Chronicles 21:15 is part of a narrative that focuses on the reign of Jehoram, the son of Jehoshaphat and king of Judah. The verse is a message of judgment pronounced against Jehoram because of his wickedness and idolatry. To understand the context, we need to go back a few verses. In 2 Chronicles 21:12‑14 a written message is delivered to Jehoram, detailing the judgment that will befall him because of his unfaithfulness to God.

Jehoram had followed the ways of the kings of Israel, who led the people into idol worship. He had married into the family of the wicked King Ahab and worshipped idols like the kings of Israel.

The judgment pronounced upon Jehoram is a painful disease of the bowels, described as great sickness by disease of his bowels until his bowels fall out day by day, with his intestines filled with worms, leading to his eventual death. This punishment was a consequence of Jehoram’s disobedience to God and his failure to lead the people of Judah in righteousness.

The wording of the verse is graphic, emphasizing the severity and prolonged nature of the sickness. The verse serves as a reminder of the consequences of turning away from God and embracing wickedness, highlighting the principle that disobedience to God’s commands leads to judgment. God, in His justice, brings discipline upon those who reject His ways and persist in sin.

It is worth noting that while this verse depicts a specific judgment on Jehoram, God’s judgments in the Bible are often specific to the individuals or nations involved and should not be taken as a blanket statement for all circumstances.

Overall, 2 Chronicles 21:15 reveals the consequences of Jehoram’s unfaithfulness and warns us about the dangers of straying from God’s path, reminding us of the importance of obedience and faithfulness to God’s commands.
