2 Chronicles 24:15

Posted on 18 May at 11:38

“But Jehoiada waxed old, and was full of days when he died; an hundred and thirty years old was he when he died.”

Context:2 Chronicles 24:15 is part of the account of the reign of Joash (or Jehoash), the king of Judah. Joash became king at a young age and was guided by Jehoiada the priest, who acted as his mentor and counselor. Jehoiada played a crucial role in Joash’s early reforms and restoration of the temple of the Lord.

Key Themes and Lessons:Faithfulness and Service: The verse highlights the life and death of Jehoiada, who faithfully served God and Joash throughout his life. Jehoiada’s commitment to the Lord and his dedication to the well-being of the nation set an example of faithfulness and service. His long life and influence had a positive impact on the king and the nation. God’s Blessing: The mention of Jehoiada’s old age and the fact that he died “full of days” indicates that God blessed him with a long and fulfilling life. This serves as a reminder that God rewards faithfulness and blesses those who serve Him faithfully. Impact of Wise Counsel: Jehoiada’s influence on Joash was significant. The priest’s godly counsel and guidance helped the young king make wise decisions, particularly in restoring the temple and purging idolatry from the land. This underscores the importance of wise and godly counsel in our lives, as it can lead us on the right path and help us make wise choices. Legacy: Jehoiada’s long life and faithful service left a lasting impact on the nation of Judah. His example and teachings continued to shape the nation even after his passing. This teaches us the significance of leaving a godly legacy for future generations. The choices we make and the way we live can have a lasting influence on those around us.

Application:Faithfulness and Service: Reflect on your own life and consider areas where you can be more faithful in serving God and others. Seek opportunities to serve and make a positive impact in your community. Seek Wise Counsel: Surround yourself with wise and godly mentors who can offer guidance and support. Be open to their advice and learn from their experiences. Consider Your Legacy: Evaluate your actions and choices in light of the impact they may have on others. Strive to leave a positive and godly legacy that will inspire and bless future generations. Remember, the study of God’s Word is not merely an intellectual exercise but a call to action. Apply the lessons learned from Jehoiada’s example to your own life and seek to walk faithfully with God, serving Him and impacting others for His glory.
