2 Chronicles 32:5

Posted on 18 May at 11:39

“Also he strengthened himself, and built up all the wall that was broken, and raised it up to the towers, and another wall without, and repaired Millo in the city of David, and made darts and shields in abundance.”

This verse is part of the historical account of King Hezekiah’s reign over the kingdom of Judah. Hezekiah was known for his reforms and his faithfulness to God. In this particular verse, we see Hezekiah’s actions to strengthen the defense of Jerusalem against the impending invasion by the Assyrian army led by King Sennacherib.

Here are some key points and lessons we can draw from this verse:

  • Taking Responsibility:Hezekiah took personal responsibility for the security and well-being of his people. He didn’t sit idly or rely solely on military might. Instead, he actively worked to strengthen the city’s defenses. This teaches us the importance of taking responsibility for the tasks and challenges that lie before us.
  • Building and Repairing:Hezekiah focused on rebuilding and repairing what was broken. He repaired the broken walls and even built additional walls and towers to strengthen the city’s defenses. This highlights the significance of investing time and effort into restoring what is damaged or weakened in our lives. It could apply to physical structures, relationships, or even spiritual aspects of our lives.
  • Preparation and Prudence:Hezekiah’s actions to make “darts and shields in abundance” reveal his preparedness for the potential battle. He understood the importance of equipping his people with the necessary weapons and defenses. Likewise, we should strive to be prepared and prudent in our lives, not only for physical challenges but also for spiritual battles. This can involve equipping ourselves with the armour of God, as described in Ephesians 6:10-18.
  • Trusting in God:Although not explicitly mentioned in this verse, it is important to consider the broader context of Hezekiah’s faith and trust in God. Throughout his reign, Hezekiah demonstrated unwavering trust in God’s power and promises. This trust ultimately led to God’s intervention and the deliverance of Jerusalem from the Assyrian army. In our own lives, we should remember to trust in God, seeking His guidance and protection in times of difficulty.

Overall, 2 Chronicles 32:5 teaches us about taking responsibility, rebuilding what is broken, being prepared, and trusting in God. These lessons can be applied to various aspects of our lives, including our personal growth, relationships, and spiritual journey.
