2 Chronicles 6:30

Posted on 18 May at 11:39

Then heare thou from heauen thy dwelling place, and forgiue, and render vnto euery man according vnto all his wayes, whose heart thou knowest (for thou onely knowest the hearts of the children of men:) 2 Chronicles 6:30 (KJV)

Context: The verse is part of King Solomon’s prayer of dedication for the newly built temple in Jerusalem. In this specific portion of the prayer Solomon acknowledges that no one is without sin and asks God to listen, forgive, and judge each person based on their ways and the condition of their hearts.

Seeking Forgiveness: Solomon recognises the human condition and the reality of sin. He acknowledges that all people have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory (Romans 3:23). Therefore he prays for forgiveness, knowing that only God can forgive sins and grant mercy. It highlights the importance of humbly seeking forgiveness from God and acknowledging our need for His grace.

God’s Dwelling Place: Solomon addresses God as the one who dwells in heaven. He acknowledges that God’s presence is not confined to the physical temple but extends to heaven, emphasizing God’s transcendence and His ability to hear and answer prayers from His dwelling place.

Knowledge of the Heart: Solomon acknowledges that only God truly knows the hearts of all people. This truth is echoed throughout Scripture, such as Jeremiah 17:10, which states, “I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.” Solomon recognises that God’s knowledge of the heart is necessary for Him to judge each person fairly and accurately.

Implications for Today: The verse reminds believers of the importance of genuine repentance and seeking forgiveness from God. It also highlights that God knows the true intentions and motives of our hearts, and He will judge each person accordingly. This understanding should motivate us to live in a manner pleasing to God, regularly examine our hearts, confess our sins, and seek His forgiveness.

Conclusion: 2 Chronicles 6:30 reflects Solomon’s prayer for forgiveness and acknowledgment of God’s knowledge of the human heart. It reminds us of our need for God’s forgiveness, our reliance on His grace, and His role as the ultimate judge who renders judgment according to each person’s ways and the condition of their heart.
