“Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us.”

Certainly! Here is a Bible study on

Verse: “Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us.” (2 Corinthians 1:10, KJV)

Context:The Apostle Paul wrote the letter of 2 Corinthians to the church in Corinth to address various issues and reinforce his authority as an apostle. In this particular verse, Paul is expressing his confidence in God’s faithfulness and deliverance.

Deliverance from a great death:Paul begins by acknowledging that God has delivered him and his companions from a great death. While the exact circumstances are not specified, Paul frequently faced persecution, hardships, and dangers in his missionary journeys (2 Corinthians 11:23-28). Despite these challenges, God rescued him and preserved his life. This emphasizes God’s power to protect and save His servants.

Present deliverance:Paul continues by stating that God “doth deliver.” This indicates that God’s deliverance is not limited to past experiences but is ongoing. Paul recognizes God’s continuous faithfulness in delivering him from various trials and tribulations. It highlights the present reality of God’s intervention and His ability to rescue believers from difficulties and challenges they may face in their daily lives.

Trust in future deliverance:Paul concludes the verse with an expression of his trust and confidence in God’s future deliverance. He states that he and his companions put their trust in God, fully believing that He will yet deliver them. This demonstrates Paul’s unwavering faith in God’s promises and His commitment to protect and deliver His people. Paul’s trust is not based on mere wishful thinking but on the character and track record of God’s faithfulness.

Key Lessons:

  • God is our deliverer:The verse underscores the truth that God is our ultimate deliverer. He has the power to rescue us from dangerous situations, whether physical, emotional, or spiritual. We can find comfort in knowing that God is always present and actively involved in our lives, ready to deliver us from any adversity we may face.
  • God’s faithfulness is constant:The verse reminds us that God’s faithfulness is not limited to a single event or period but extends throughout our lives. Just as He has delivered us in the past, He continues to do so in the present and will do so in the future. Our past experiences of God’s deliverance should strengthen our trust in Him, knowing that He remains the same faithful and reliable God.

Application:

  • Reflect on your own life and consider instances where God has delivered you from challenging circumstances. Recognize His faithfulness and offer thanksgiving for His interventions. In areas where you currently need deliverance, place your trust in God, knowing that He is capable of bringing you through those situations as well. Seek His guidance and strength, and allow His promises to give you peace and assurance in the midst of trials.

Remember, the overarching theme of 2 Corinthians 1:10 is God’s deliverance and faithfulness. Embrace this truth, and let it strengthen your faith and trust in Him.
