“But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.”

Context:The book of 2 Corinthians was written by the Apostle Paul to the church in Corinth. In this particular verse, Paul is addressing his own ministry and the principles he and his fellow workers adhere to.

Renouncing the hidden things of dishonesty:Paul starts by highlighting the integrity of his ministry. He and his companions have consciously chosen to renounce or reject the hidden things of dishonesty. They strive to live in a manner that is open, sincere, and transparent, both in their personal lives and in their ministry.

Not walking in craftiness:Craftiness refers to cunning or deceitful behaviour. Paul emphasises that he and his companions do not engage in manipulative tactics or deceitful practices to advance their ministry. Instead, they seek to operate with honesty, humility, and openness.

Not handling the word of God deceitfully:Paul emphasises the importance of handling the Word of God with integrity. He and his fellow workers do not distort or manipulate the Scriptures to suit their own purposes or agendas. They faithfully proclaim and teach the truth of God’s Word, recognising its authority and power.

Manifestation of the truth:Paul highlights that the way they commend themselves and their ministry to others is through the manifestation of the truth. They strive to live out and demonstrate the reality and power of the Gospel in their lives. Their conduct and character are a testimony to the transforming work of Christ.

Commending ourselves to every man’s conscience:Paul’s goal is not to manipulate or convince others through clever arguments or persuasion. Instead, he desires to appeal to the conscience of every person. By living out the truth and speaking it with sincerity, they seek to make an impact on people’s hearts and minds.

In the sight of God:Ultimately, Paul and his companions recognise that their ministry is carried out in the sight of God. They understand the importance of living with integrity and faithfulness, knowing that God is the ultimate judge of their motives and actions.
