2 Corinthians 6:11

Listen to this article

“O ye Corinthians, our mouth is open unto you, our heart is enlarged.”

Background:The book of 2 Corinthians was written by the apostle Paul to the church in Corinth. The church was facing various challenges, including false teachers and divisions within the body. In this particular verse, Paul expresses his affection and openness towards the Corinthians.

Communication with transparency:Paul begins by saying, “Our mouth is open unto you.” This signifies that Paul and his fellow workers were not holding anything back in their communication with the Corinthians. They were open, honest, and transparent in their speech. This openness was essential in addressing the issues and concerns within the church.

Enlarged heart:Paul continues by saying, “our heart is enlarged.” This phrase reveals Paul’s deep love and concern for the Corinthians. His heart was not restricted or limited in its affection towards them. Instead, it was enlarged, indicating his desire to embrace them fully and demonstrate genuine care.

Implications for believers today:a. Openness in communication: As believers, we should strive for open and honest communication within our churches and communities. Transparency fosters trust, unity, and growth.

b. Love and enlarged hearts: Our love for others, especially fellow believers, should not be confined or restricted. Instead, we should have enlarged hearts, filled with genuine concern, compassion, and a desire to support and encourage one another.

c. Overcoming divisions: Paul’s affectionate approach serves as an example for us to follow when dealing with conflicts or divisions within the body of Christ. Genuine love can bridge gaps and heal wounds, leading to reconciliation and unity.

Further study:To gain a deeper understanding of the context and the message of 2 Corinthians, it is recommended to read the entire book. Additional verses that complement the themes of openness, love, and unity include 2 Corinthians 7:2-4, 2 Corinthians 13:11, and 2 Corinthians 2:4.
