2 Corinthians 7:2

Listen to this article

“Receive us; we have wronged no man, we have corrupted no man, we have defrauded no man.”

Historical Context:The book of 2 Corinthians was written by the Apostle Paul to the church in Corinth. In this letter, Paul addresses various issues concerning his apostolic authority, the challenges he faced, and his relationship with the Corinthians. Paul had previously written a severe letter to the Corinthians (which is not included in the Bible), and here he is referring to their reconciliation.

In the first part of the verse, Paul implores the Corinthians to receive him. This suggests that there might have been some strained relations between Paul and the Corinthian church. Paul desired to be welcomed back into their fellowship, indicating his longing for a restored relationship with them.

Affirmations of Conduct:The second part of the verse consists of three affirmations made by Paul regarding his conduct towards the Corinthians.

a) “We have wronged no man”: Paul asserts that he had not done any harm or wrong to anyone among the Corinthians. This statement highlights his integrity and emphasizes that he did not have any malicious intentions in his dealings with them.

b) “We have corrupted no man”: Paul affirms that he had not corrupted or led anyone astray with false teachings or immoral behavior. He had faithfully preached the gospel and sought the spiritual well-being of the Corinthians.

c) “We have defrauded no man”: Paul declares that he had not taken advantage of anyone or engaged in dishonest practices. He had not deceived or cheated the Corinthians in any way, financially or otherwise.

Paul’s Character and Ministry:These affirmations of Paul’s conduct provide insight into his character and integrity as an apostle. He wanted to establish his credibility and demonstrate that his intentions were pure and honorable.

  • The Appeal to Be Received:
  • a) “We have wronged no man”
  • b) “We have corrupted no man”
  • c) “We have defrauded no man”
