2 Kings 10:12

Posted on 18 May at 11:40

“And he arose and departed, and came to Samaria. And as he was at the shearing house in the way,”

Verse:Certainly! Here is a Bible study on 2 Kings 10:12, using the King James Version (KJV):

To understand the verse better, let’s provide some context. In this chapter, Jehu, anointed by the prophet Elisha, was commissioned by God to execute judgment on the house of Ahab and eliminate the worship of Baal in Israel. Jehu had already carried out a massacre of Ahab’s descendants and supporters and was now heading towards Samaria, the capital of Israel.

Jehu’s Actions:In this particular verse, Jehu is depicted as leaving the scene of the massacre and traveling to Samaria. He stops at a place called the “shearing house” or the “house of shepherds” on his way. The shearing house was likely a significant location where sheep were sheared, possibly owned by the king or associated with the worship of Baal.

Symbolic Meaning:Jehu’s actions hold symbolic significance. By departing from the scene of the slaughter and heading to Samaria, he is moving closer to the center of power. Samaria was the political and religious hub of Israel at the time. Jehu’s journey symbolizes his intention to uproot the worship of Baal and restore true worship in the land.

Significance of the Shearing House:The mention of the shearing house is noteworthy because it implies that Jehu paused at a place associated with the worship of Baal. By being at the shearing house, he is strategically positioning himself to confront the religious practices that had led Israel astray.

Application:This verse can encourage us to reflect on the importance of taking a stand for what is right and confronting false worship or any form of idolatry in our lives. Like Jehu, we should be willing to take decisive action and stand against practices that go against God’s commandments. Furthermore, we can learn from Jehu’s example of strategic planning and being intentional about confronting sinful influences in our lives.
