2 Kings 15:6

Posted on 18 May at 11:40

“And the rest of the acts of Azariah, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?”

This verse is part of a historical account found in the Book of 2 Kings, which chronicles the reigns of various kings in Israel and Judah. In this particular verse, the focus is on Azariah, who is also known as Uzziah.

Azariah, or Uzziah, reigned over the southern kingdom of Judah for a period of 52 years (2 Kings 15:2). He became king at the age of 16 and was known for his generally righteous and prosperous reign. However, despite his initial faithfulness to God, his later actions led to his downfall.

The verse mentions that the detailed account of Azariah’s reign and his accomplishments can be found in the “book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah.” This refers to a historical record or chronicle that was maintained to document the significant events and actions of the kings of Judah.

The purpose of referencing this book is to inform the readers of the existence of a comprehensive record that contains more information about Azariah’s reign than what is included in the Book of 2 Kings. The author is essentially directing the readers to consult the book for further details.

This verse also highlights the importance of historical documentation and the value of keeping records of significant events. It serves as a reminder that there are additional sources of information and history that exist outside of the specific accounts given in the Scriptures. It encourages readers to seek out additional knowledge and resources to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the events described.
