Jehoram, king of the northern kingdom of Israel, allied with Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, and the king of Edom to subdue the rebellious Moabites. Before the battle, Jehoshaphat sought the counsel of the prophet Elisha. Elisha, the successor of Elijah, received a word from the Lord promising victory over Moab (2 Kings 3:15‑19). As the armies marched toward Moab, they encountered a severe shortage of water, leaving both men and animals desperately thirsty.
