2 Kings 4:43

Posted on 18 May at 11:19

And his seruitour saide, What should I set this before an hundred men? He said againe, Giue the people, that they may eate: for thus saith the Lord, They shall eate, and shall leaue thereof. 2 Kings 4:43 (KJV)

2 Kings 4:43 is a verse found in the Old Testament, specifically in the book of Kings. It forms part of the narrative that records a miraculous multiplication of food performed by the prophet Elisha. In the preceding verses (2 Kings 4:42‑44) a man brings twenty barley loaves to Elisha. The prophet instructs his servant to give the bread to the people to eat, but the servant is sceptical about whether such a small amount can feed a hundred men. In response to the servant’s doubt, Elisha repeats the command, assuring him that the people will eat and that there will be leftovers. He prefaces his instruction with, “for thus saith the LORD,” indicating that the provision is a result of God’s intervention and blessing.

God’s Provision: The multiplication of the loaves emphasizes God’s ability to provide abundantly even when resources appear insufficient. It demonstrates His power and sovereignty over the natural order, showing that He can cause scarcity to become surplus.

Faith and Obedience: Elisha’s confidence in God’s power is evident as he calmly directs the servant to distribute the food. The servant’s initial hesitation serves as a reminder of the importance of trusting God’s promises and obeying His commands without doubt.

Generosity: Elisha’s concern for the hungry crowd and his willingness to share the limited loaves reflect the virtue of generosity. The account encourages believers to be compassionate and to share what they have, trusting that God will bless and multiply acts of kindness.

God’s Abundance: The fact that food remained after everyone had eaten underscores God’s abundance and the principle of “more than enough.” When we trust in God and follow His instructions, He can bless us beyond what we can imagine or anticipate.

Overall, 2 Kings 4:43 teaches us about God’s faithfulness, provision, and the importance of trusting Him even when circumstances seem impossible. It reminds us that aligning our actions with God’s will and demonstrating faith in His power can bring about miracles in our lives.
