2 Samuel 22:19

Posted on 30 Jan at 15:35

They preuented me in the day of my calamitie: but the Lord was my stay. 2 Samuel 22:19 (KJV)

David’s Song of Deliverance, also known as David’s Psalm of Thanksgiving, is recorded in 2 Samuel 22. This song expresses gratitude and praise to God for His deliverance and protection throughout David’s life, particularly during times of trouble and distress.

In 2 Samuel 22:18, David states, ‘He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me: for they were too strong for me.’ In verse 19, he writes, ‘He brought me forth also into a large place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me.’

These verses highlight David’s trust in God’s intervention during adversity. The passage demonstrates the contrast between human weakness and divine strength, showing how God provides deliverance and refuge. This message remains relevant for believers today, reminding us that God is a faithful source of support in our own trials and challenges.

“He brought me also out of the midst of the waters: and He hath led me in a great way.”

This verse is part of a poetic psalm known as David’s Song of Deliverance or David’s Psalm of Thanksgiving, which is recorded in 2 Samuel 22.

In verse 19, David celebrates God’s rescuing power, recalling how the Lord lifted him out of a dangerous situation likened to being surrounded by water and then guided him onward.

“He brought me also out of the midst of the waters”:

  • The “waters” symbolize a perilous circumstance or overwhelming danger from which David needed rescue.
  • By saying God “brought me … out,” David affirms that the Lord intervened directly to save him from imminent harm.

“And He hath led me in a great way”:

  • This phrase expresses that after delivering David, God continued to guide him along a secure and prosperous path.
  • It underscores ongoing divine providence, not merely a single act of rescue.

David’s declaration reflects his deep trust in God’s ability to rescue and lead him through life’s trials. It highlights the contrast between human vulnerability and God’s steadfast help.

Believers can apply this verse to their own lives by recognizing that, even when faced with overwhelming challenges, God is capable of delivering us from danger and guiding us forward. He remains a reliable source of help, offering comfort and direction in times of trouble.

As we reflect on 2 Samuel 22:19, may it encourage us to cultivate a deep trust in God, knowing that He is always there to rescue and lead us, even in the darkest moments of our lives.
