Listen to this article

I will call on the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saued from mine enemies. 2 Samuel 22:4 (KJV)

This verse belongs to a poetic song of thanksgiving that David composed after the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, including King Saul. The same song is recorded in the book of Psalms as Psalm 18, and it expresses David’s deep gratitude and adoration for God’s faithfulness and deliverance.

Calling on the Lord: David affirms his intent to call upon the Lord, signifying his reliance on God’s strength, wisdom, and deliverance. This act reflects an attitude of humility and trust, acknowledging that he cannot save himself from his enemies, but God can.

God’s worthiness: He acknowledges that the Lord is worthy to be praised, recognizing God’s greatness, holiness, and sovereignty. David’s declaration emphasizes that only God deserves praise and worship for His mighty acts.

Salvation from enemies: By calling upon the Lord and acknowledging His worthiness, David declares confidence that he will be saved from his enemies. This statement is rooted in his past experiences of God’s deliverance and serves as a declaration of faith for future deliverance as well.

Lessons for believers: The passage teaches important truths about prayer, worship, and God’s deliverance. Worship and praise are encouraged in all circumstances; praising God shifts our focus from our problems to His greatness and faithfulness. Trust in God’s deliverance is affirmed, reminding us that even when we face enemies or difficulties, we can have confidence that God is able to save and deliver according to His perfect timing and plan.

In conclusion, this verse offers a beautiful expression of David’s gratitude, faith, and trust in God’s deliverance. It serves as a timeless reminder for us to call upon the Lord, acknowledge His worthiness, and trust in His salvation from our enemies.
