Abialbon the Arbathite, Azmaueth the Barhumite, 2 Samuel 23:31 (KJV)

In 2 Samuel 23:31 the Scripture records the names “Abi‑albon the Arbathite” and “Azmaveth the Barhumite” as members of David’s renowned group of Mighty Men. These two warriors are listed among a larger cadre of valiant fighters who served King David faithfully and contributed to the military successes of Israel under his leadership. Although the precise locations of Arbath and Barhum remain uncertain, the designations clearly point to regional or tribal origins for each man, indicating that they hailed from distinct localities within the nation.

Azmaveth is also mentioned in 1 Chronicles 11:33, confirming his presence among David’s elite warriors in another biblical record. The inclusion of both names in the list serves to honor their courage, loyalty, and the role they played in the establishment and defense of the kingdom. Their brief appearance in the text underscores the significance attributed to even those whose personal histories are not detailed elsewhere in Scripture. The passage therefore highlights the collective honor bestowed upon David’s mighty men, acknowledging each individual’s contribution without providing extensive biographical information.

The brief but purposeful mention of Abi‑albon and Azmaveth reflects the biblical practice of commemorating faithful service through naming. Their presence in the roster of David’s warriors affirms that every member, regardless of the amount of narrative detail available, was valued for his dedication to the king and to Israel’s cause. This acknowledgment invites readers to appreciate the broader community of loyal soldiers who, though often unnamed in depth, were essential to the nation’s triumphs during David’s reign.
