2 Thessalonians 1:12

That the Name of our Lord Iesus Christ may bee glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God, and the Lord Iesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians 1:12 (KJV)

Let us study 2 Thessalonians 1:12 in the King James Version. This verse concludes Paul’s second letter to the Thessalonians, a letter written to believers who were enduring persecution and facing various challenges in their faith. Paul’s prayer is that the name of the Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in the Thessalonian believers. The name of Jesus Christ represents His character, authority, and personhood, and to glorify His name is to exalt and honor Him in every aspect of life. The Thessalonians were therefore encouraged to live in a way that brings glory to the name of Jesus, both in their words and actions.

Paul also prays that the Thessalonians may be glorified in Jesus Christ. This reciprocal glory means that as they honor Jesus, they themselves are elevated and honored. By living lives that reflect the character of Christ, they experience the blessings, favor, and joy that flow from a deep relationship with Him.

The final part of the verse highlights that this mutual glorification is made possible “according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.” The grace of God is His undeserved favor and kindness extended to humanity. It is through this grace, given by both the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, that believers are empowered to live lives that bring glory to Christ and, in turn, experience His glory in return.
