Exodus 7:6

Listen to this article

“Then Moses and Aaron did so, as the Lord commanded them, so did they.”

This verse occurs within the context of the account of the plagues that God brought upon Egypt in order to secure the liberation of the Israelites from slavery. Here, Moses and Aaron are the central figures who act as instruments of God’s power and spokespersons for His divine commands.

Background:Exodus begins with the Israelites being oppressed and enslaved by the Egyptians. God hears the cries of His people and raises up Moses as their deliverer. Moses, initially reluctant, is called by God at the burning bush to confront Pharaoh and demand the release of the Israelites. In Exodus 7, Moses and Aaron are about to confront Pharaoh for the first time.

Obedience and Faithfulness:The verse highlights the obedience and faithfulness of Moses and Aaron. They obeyed God’s commands precisely as instructed. This obedience was crucial, as it demonstrated their trust in God’s authority and power. Despite the challenges they would face in confronting Pharaoh and performing miraculous signs, they remained steadfast and followed God’s instructions faithfully.

God’s Sovereignty:This verse also emphasizes God’s sovereignty over Moses and Aaron’s actions. They acted in accordance with God’s specific instructions, recognizing His authority and submitting to His divine will. Their obedience serves as a reminder that human effort alone is insufficient; it is through aligning oneself with God’s plans and purposes that true success is achieved.

Application to Our Lives:

  • Trusting God’s Guidance: Just as Moses and Aaron trusted in God’s guidance, we are called to trust in God’s leading and obey His commands. Even when faced with daunting tasks or uncertain circumstances, we can find strength and confidence in knowing that God is with us and that His plans will ultimately prevail.
  • Faithful Obedience: Moses and Aaron’s example challenges us to be faithful and obedient to God’s commands. The path of obedience may not always be easy, but when we submit ourselves to God’s will and follow His instructions, we position ourselves to be used by Him for His purposes.
  • Recognizing God’s Sovereignty: This verse reminds us of God’s sovereignty and His ability to work through us for His glory. By acknowledging His authority in our lives and yielding to His plans, we can experience His power and see His work accomplished through us.
