2 Samuel Chapter 24

Summery

2 Samuel 24 tells the story of David's sin in conducting a census and the consequences that follow. At the time, David becomes tempted by Satan to take a census of Israel and Judah, which goes against God's will. David instructs Joab, the commander of his army, to carry out the census, despite Joab's objections. The census takes nine months and twenty days to complete.

After the census is finished, David realizes his wrongdoing and confesses his sin to God. God gives David three options for punishment: seven years of famine, three months of fleeing from enemies, or three days of pestilence. David chooses the latter, knowing that God's mercy is great.

As a result, a plague breaks out in Israel, causing the death of seventy thousand men. David pleads with God to stop the destruction and offers sacrifices to appease Him. God instructs David to build an altar on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite. David purchases the threshing floor and offers sacrifices there.

Through this event, David learns the importance of obedience and the consequences of his actions. This chapter serves as a reminder of the importance of seeking God's guidance and following His commands.
