Job 2 in the King James Version (KJV) recounts the continuation of Job's ordeal after losing his wealth, children, and health in the previous chapter. Satan approaches God again, insisting that Job's faithfulness is solely due to his favorable circumstances. God permits Satan to afflict Job physically, but forbids him from taking his life.
In this chapter, Job is covered in painful boils from head to toe. He sits on a heap of ashes, scraping his sores with broken pottery. Even his wife encourages him to curse God and die, but Job remains steadfast in his faith, refusing to sin with his lips.
Job's three friends, Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar, hear of his suffering and come to console him. Upon seeing his state, they are speechless and weep, tearing their clothes in mourning. They sit with Job for seven days and nights, not saying a word due to the magnitude of his pain.
