Zechariah Chapter 5

Summery

Zechariah 5 reveals two visions given to the prophet by God. In the first vision, Zechariah sees a flying scroll, representing a curse, which contains the judgment of God upon those who steal and swear falsely by His name. The scroll’s dimensions are remarkable, being 20 cubits long and 10 cubits wide, symbolizing the completeness and severity of the curse. This vision emphasizes God’s justice and His intolerance towards sin.

In the second vision, Zechariah sees a woman called “wickedness” sitting in a basket, held down by a lead cover. The woman is then carried away by two women with wings like storks, taking her to a land called Shinar. This vision symbolizes the removal of evil from the land of Judah and its transfer to a foreign place.

These visions serve as reminders that God is fully aware of the sins committed by His people, and He will bring judgment upon the wicked. The imagery of the flying scroll and the woman in the basket portrays the consequences that will befall those who engage in dishonesty and wickedness.
