Numbers 7:5

Listen to this article

"Take it of them, that they may be to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation; and thou shalt give them unto the Levites, to every man according to his service."

In this verse, the Lord is instructing Moses regarding the offerings that the tribal leaders have presented. The offerings mentioned in the preceding verses included various items like wagons and oxen, and now God is directing Moses on what to do with these offerings. Here are some key points to consider in a Bible study of Numbers 7:5:

The Tabernacle and Its Service:The verse mentions the "tabernacle of the congregation," which was a portable sanctuary constructed by the Israelites in the wilderness. It was a place for worship, sacrifices, and communication with God. The verse emphasizes the importance of these offerings in serving the tabernacle and facilitating its various services.

The Role of the Levites:God instructs Moses to give the offerings to the Levites. The Levites were a tribe set apart for religious service in Israel. They were responsible for tasks related to the tabernacle and the priesthood. Each Levite received offerings according to his specific role and duties within the tabernacle.

The Organisation of Worship:This verse highlights the organised and structured nature of worship and religious service in ancient Israel. The contributions from the tribal leaders were not arbitrary but were meant to support the Levites in their sacred duties, maintaining order and consistency in the worship practices of the Israelites.

Lessons on Stewardship:The passage also teaches the concept of stewardship. The leaders of the tribes contributed valuable resources to support the worship of God. This illustrates the principle of giving back to God and supporting the religious community. It can serve as a lesson for contemporary believers about their own roles in supporting the work of God’s house.

In a Bible study, you would explore the historical and cultural context of the Book of Numbers, the significance of the tabernacle in Israel’s history, the roles of the Levites, and the concept of stewardship and giving in a religious context. You may also discuss how the principles and lessons from Numbers 7:5 can be applied to the modern practice of faith and service within a religious community.

Overall, Numbers 7:5 emphasises the importance of offerings and support for the tabernacle and the religious service of the Levites, demonstrating the organised and structured nature of worship in ancient Israel.
