One yong bullocke, one ramme, one lambe of the first yeere, for a burnt offering: Numbers 7:57 (KJV)

This verse is part of Numbers chapter 7, which describes the offerings brought by the leaders of the twelve tribes of Israel for the dedication of the tabernacle. Each tribe’s leader presented specific offerings on separate days. The verse summarizes the total offerings from all twelve tribes over twelve days. All the oxen for the burnt offering were twelve bullocks, the rams twelve, the lambs of the first year twelve, with their meat offering: and the kids of the goats for sin offering twelve. “All the oxen for the burnt offering were one bull, one ram, one lamb of the first year, with their meat offering: and the kids of the goats for sin offering one.”

Symbolism of the offerings: In this verse, various animals were offered as sacrifices. The twelve bullocks represented burnt offerings, which were completely consumed on the altar, symbolizing surrender and dedication to God. The twelve rams were also burnt offerings, expressing devotion and commitment. The twelve lambs of the first year were likely presented as peace offerings, symbolizing fellowship and thanksgiving to God. The twelve kids of the goats were sin offerings, highlighting the need for atonement and cleansing from sin.

Significance of the number twelve: The repetition of the number twelve throughout this verse is noteworthy. In the Bible, the number twelve often represents completeness or perfection. It is significant because there were twelve tribes of Israel, and each leader brought these offerings to signify the unity and devotion of the entire nation.

Lessons for us today: While this verse describes specific offerings from the Old Testament period, we can draw some spiritual lessons from it. It reminds us of the importance of surrendering ourselves wholly to God, dedicating our lives to His service, and seeking His forgiveness for our sins. Additionally, it emphasizes the unity of believers and the value of offering our worship and thanksgiving as a community. Overall, Numbers 7:87 highlights the offerings presented during the dedication of the tabernacle and provides insights into the symbolism of the sacrifices and the significance of the number twelve. It reminds us of the importance of wholehearted devotion, unity among believers, and seeking God’s forgiveness in our lives.
