“And their meat offering, and their drink offerings, for the bullocks, for the rams, and for the lambs, shall be according to their number, after the manner:”
In this verse, the context revolves around the offerings and sacrifices made during the Feast of Tabernacles, also known as the Feast of Booths. The Feast of Tabernacles was a significant festival in Israel, observed in the seventh month of the Jewish calendar, Tishrei (corresponding to September or October).
During this feast, the Israelites were required to present various offerings and sacrifices to the Lord. These offerings included burnt offerings, meal offerings, and drink offerings. Numbers 29 provides a detailed account of the offerings to be made each day of the Feast of Tabernacles, including the number and types of animals, and the quantities of flour, oil, and wine to be used.
Numbers 29:33, the verse focuses on the meat offering and drink offerings that were to accompany the sacrifices made during the feast. It emphasizes that the quantity of these offerings was to be according to the number of bullocks, rams, and lambs that were being offered. In other words, the amount of meat and drink offerings was proportionate to the number of sacrificial animals.
This verse highlights the meticulousness with which the Israelites were to follow God’s instructions regarding their offerings and sacrifices. It emphasizes the importance of offering sacrifices in the prescribed manner and maintaining obedience to God’s commandments.
It is worth noting that the sacrificial system described in the book of Numbers was an integral part of the Old Testament Law and was fulfilled through the perfect sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who became the ultimate sacrifice for the forgiveness of sins in the New Testament. As Christians, we no longer observe these specific rituals and offerings but look to Christ as our atonement and mediator before God.
