Numbers 29:33
And their meat offering and their drink offerings for the bullocks, for the rams, and for the lambs, shall be according to their number, after the manner:
Numbers 29:33 (KJV)
Context
This verse belongs to the Feast of Tabernacles, also called the Feast of Booths, celebrated in the seventh month (Tishrei). During this week-long festival, the Israelites brought burnt offerings, grain offerings, and drink offerings each day. Numbers 29 gives the exact number and kind of animals for every day, and verse 33 concerns the offerings for the second day.
Meaning
The phrase “according to their number, after the manner” means the amounts were fixed by God’s command, not left to human choice. The grain and drink offerings accompanied the bullocks, rams, and lambs in set proportions. This careful detail shows that worship was to be precise and faithful, reflecting a heart of complete obedience.
Biblical connections
The same formula appears throughout the chapter (for example, Numbers 29:18, 21, 24), stressing consistency in worship. The offerings expressed thanksgiving for the harvest and dependence on God, who provided the land’s fruit. In the New Testament, the sacrificial system finds its fulfillment in Christ, who offered Himself once for all (Hebrews 10:10). Believers no longer bring these animal and grain offerings, but the principle of orderly, obedient worship remains.
Application
This verse teaches that God cares about the details of our worship. Just as Israel followed specific instructions, we should serve God with careful, willing hearts. Our worship includes both outward actions and inward devotion, honoring God with our resources and our lives.
Reflection
Consider how you approach worship. Do you give God your best, or only what is convenient? The Israelites brought offerings in exact measure; we can offer our time, talents, and treasures willingly. Let this verse remind you that God values faithful, heartfelt obedience in every part of life.
