Listen to this article

“And they removed from Eziongaber, and pitched in the wilderness of Zin, which is Kadesh.”

Context:The book of Numbers provides a detailed account of the Israelites’ journey from Egypt to the Promised Land. In this particular verse, the Israelites are listed as they continue their journey through the wilderness of Zin, specifically in the region known as Kadesh.

Eziongaber: The verse begins with the Israelites moving from Eziongaber. Eziongaber was a port city located on the northern tip of the Gulf of Aqaba, which is now part of modern-day Jordan. It was an important trading hub and served as a departure point for the Israelites on their journey.

The Wilderness of Zin: The Israelites’ next destination mentioned in the verse is the wilderness of Zin. The wilderness of Zin was a desert region located in the southern part of Canaan. It was an arid and desolate area that the Israelites had to traverse during their journey.

Kadesh: The verse concludes by stating that the Israelites pitched or set up camp in Kadesh. Kadesh was an important site in the wilderness of Zin and is mentioned several times in the Bible. It was here that the Israelites experienced various significant events, including the rebellion of Moses and Aaron at the waters of Meribah (Numbers 20:1-13).
