Listen to this article

“Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye are passed over Jordan into the land of Canaan;”

Context:The book of Numbers is the fourth book of the Bible and contains the account of the Israelites’ journey from Mount Sinai to the borders of the Promised Land. In this particular verse, God instructs Moses to speak to the children of Israel after they have crossed the Jordan River and entered the land of Canaan.

Crossing the Jordan River:The Jordan River served as a geographical barrier between the wilderness and the Promised Land. Crossing the Jordan River was a significant event for the Israelites as it marked their entrance into the land God had promised to give them. This verse highlights that they have successfully made this transition and are now in the land of Canaan.

God’s faithfulness:The fulfilment of God’s promise to bring the Israelites into the Promised Land demonstrates His faithfulness and commitment to His people. Despite the challenges they faced during their wilderness journey, God remained true to His word and led them to the land He had promised.

Obedience and instruction:God gives Moses specific instructions to speak to the children of Israel. This highlights the importance of obedience and following God’s guidance. Throughout the book of Numbers, we see that God gave the Israelites various instructions and commandments, and their obedience was crucial for their success and well-being.

Application to our lives:While Numbers 33:51 specifically addresses the Israelites’ entry into the Promised Land, we can draw general lessons from it. It reminds us of God’s faithfulness to fulfil His promises and the importance of obedience to His instructions. As believers, we can trust that God will guide us and lead us into the blessings He has prepared for us, just as He did for the Israelites.
