Numbers 33:51

Speake vnto the children of Israel, and say vnto them, When ye are passed ouer Iordane into the land of Canaan; Numbers 33:51 (KJV)

The book of Numbers is the fourth book of the Bible and records the Israelites’ journey from Mount Sinai to the borders of the Promised Land. In this verse God commands Moses to address the children of Israel concerning their imminent entry into Canaan after crossing the Jordan River.

The Jordan River formed a natural barrier between the wilderness and the land God had promised. Crossing it marked the decisive moment when the people would move from wandering to possession of the promised inheritance. The verse therefore anticipates this transition and underscores its importance for the nation.

God’s faithfulness is evident in the fulfillment of the promise to bring His people into the land. Despite the hardships of the wilderness wanderings, He remained true to His word and led them toward the inheritance He had pledged.

Obedience and instruction are central to the passage. God not only tells Moses to speak to the Israelites but also exhorts them to keep the statutes, judgments, and commandments that He will command them once they possess the land. This highlights that success in the new territory depends on faithful adherence to God’s revealed law.

Application to our lives follows the same principles. Though the verse speaks directly to the Israelites’ future entry into Canaan, it reminds believers today of God’s reliability in keeping His promises and the necessity of obeying His directives. Trusting in God’s guidance leads us into the blessings He has prepared, just as He led the Israelites into the promised land.
