Deuteronomy 33:23

And of Naphtali he said, O Naphtali, satisfied with favour, and full with the blessing of the Lord: possess thou the west and the south.

Context

Moses spoke these words as part of his final blessings to the twelve tribes of Israel before his death. Naphtali was a son of Jacob, and his descendants received land in the northern part of the Promised Land, near the Sea of Galilee.

Meaning

“Satisfied with favour” means the tribe would know deep contentment because of God’s kindness. “Full with the blessing of the LORD” shows that this blessing was not merely material but came from God’s covenant promise. Such fullness leaves no need for anything else.

Biblical connections

The command “possess thou the west and the south” points to the tribe’s actual inheritance, which included fertile land and the Sea of Galilee. This echoes the broader promise that God gives His people a fruitful place to live, as seen in the division of the land under Joshua.

Application

True satisfaction does not come from wealth or comfort but from the favour of God. Believers today can receive the same fullness when they trust His promises. They are also called to possess what God gives, stepping forward to receive His provision rather than doubting it.
