Judges 13:20

Posted on 29 December 2024
Listen to this article

“But the angel of the LORD did no more appear to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was an angel of the LORD.”

In Judges 13, we find the account of the birth of Samson, who would later become one of the well-known judges of Israel.

The context of this verse takes us back to when the Angel of the Lord appeared to the wife of Manoah, who was barren, and gave her the news of her upcoming conception and the birth of a son.

The Angel’s appearance:The Angel of the Lord appeared to the woman, not in human form but in a miraculous manner, to deliver a message from God.

Throughout the Old Testament, the Angel of the Lord often represents a divine messenger or a manifestation of God Himself.

Manoah’s response:Manoah’s wife told him about the encounter, and Manoah, desiring to see the Angel for himself, prayed to God to send the Angel again.

In response to Manoah’s prayer, God listened and sent the Angel of the Lord once more.

Manoah’s realization:In Judges 13:20, we learn that after the Angel appeared to Manoah and his wife again, Manoah recognized that this was indeed an angel sent by the Lord.

It was at this moment that he realised the significance and authenticity of the heavenly visitor.

This realisation brought Manoah to a deeper understanding of the divine encounter.

This verse emphasises the significance of Manoah’s recognition of the angel’s divine nature.

It demonstrates that God chose to reveal Himself in a unique way to Manoah and his wife, confirming the truthfulness of their previous encounter with the angel.

It also showcases Manoah’s growing faith and discernment as he comes to understand the divine nature of the angelic visitation.

Overall, Judges 13:20 highlights the importance of recognising and acknowledging God’s divine intervention in our lives.

Just as Manoah came to realise that the angel was sent by the Lord, we too should seek to discern God’s presence and guidance in our own experiences.

This verse encourages us to be attentive to the ways in which God may be speaking to us, and to respond with faith and obedience when He reveals Himself to us.
