“In those days there was no king in Israel: and in those days the tribe of the Danites sought them an inheritance to dwell in; for unto that day all their inheritance had not fallen unto them among the tribes of Israel.”

This period was characterised by a cycle of sin, idolatry, oppression, and deliverance by judges raised up by God.

- Contentment:The Danites’ search for a new inheritance can remind us of the dangers of discontentment. While it is natural to desire better circumstances, it is important to seek contentment in God and trust in His provision.
- Seeking God’s Will:Instead of taking matters into their own hands, the Danites could have sought God’s guidance and relied on His wisdom. In our lives, it is crucial to seek God’s will and trust in His direction rather than relying solely on our own understanding.
- The Need for Leadership:The absence of a king in Israel highlights the importance of godly leadership. Today, we still need leaders who will guide us according to God’s Word and set a righteous example for others to follow.
Application:As we reflect on Judges 18:1, we can examine our own hearts and lives. Are we content with what God has given us, or do we constantly seek something better? Are we seeking God’s guidance and relying on His wisdom? And are we supporting and following godly leaders who point us to God’s truth?
