1 Samuel 9:8
And the servant answered Saul again, and said, Behold, I have here at hand the fourth part of a shekel of silver: that will I give to the man of God, to tell us our way.

Context
Saul and his servant had searched for his father’s lost donkeys across several regions without success. As they neared the city where Samuel lived, Saul wanted to give up and return home. His servant then remembered that a man of God was in that city and suggested they ask him for direction. In this verse, the servant answers Saul’s worry about having no gift to offer the prophet.
Meaning
The servant says he has at hand a fourth part of a shekel of silver. This was a small amount, yet he was willing to give it to the man of God so that he would tell them their way. The phrase “tell us our way” means to show them the path they should take to find the donkeys. The servant’s words show practical faith: he did not merely hope for help; he prepared a gift to honor the prophet and enable the request.
Biblical connections
The man of God was Samuel, the prophet whom God had chosen to guide Israel. Later in this chapter, Samuel not only tells Saul where the donkeys are but also reveals that Saul is to become king (1 Samuel 9:15-17).
