1 Chronicles 1:41

Posted on 18 May at 11:30

“The sons of Anah: Dishon. And the sons of Dishon: Amram, and Eshban, and Ithran, and Cheran.”

Context:To better understand this verse, it is helpful to examine its immediate context within the chapter. Starting from 1 Chronicles 1:35, the passage traces the lineage of Esau’s sons and grandsons. It provides a summary of the generations that descended from Esau, who was the older twin brother of Jacob and the son of Isaac and Rebekah.

Anah and Dishon:In this verse, Anah is mentioned as having a son named Dishon. Anah was a son of Seir the Horite, who was a prominent figure in the land of Edom. Dishon, in turn, had several sons: Amram, Eshban, Ithran, and Cheran. These names indicate the descendants and subsequent generations of Dishon.

Historical Significance:This verse emphasizes the importance of lineage and genealogy in the biblical narrative. In ancient cultures, such as the Israelites, genealogies were considered vital for establishing one’s identity, heritage, and rightful inheritance. This detailed record of ancestry served as a way to preserve the historical and cultural heritage of the people.
