1 Chronicles 2:53

Posted on 18 May at 11:31

“And the families of Kirjath-jearim; the Ithrites, and the Puhites, and the Shumathites, and the Mishraites; of them came the Zareathites, and the Eshtaulites.”

1 Chronicles 2:53 is a verse that appears in a genealogical record found in the book of Chronicles.

This particular verse lists the families that originated from the city of Kirjath-jearim.

It mentions several names of families that can be traced back to Kirjath-jearim and then identifies two specific groups that descended from these families: the Zareathites and the Eshtaulites.

It is important to understand the historical and geographical context to gain a deeper understanding of this verse.

Kirjath-jearim was a city located in the region of Judah, which was part of the Promised Land given to the Israelites.

It was situated west of Jerusalem and played a significant role in Israel’s history.

The mention of these families in the genealogical record highlights the connection between certain clans or tribes and the city of Kirjath-jearim.

These families might have settled in or around Kirjath-jearim, and their descendants became known by these names.

While this verse may not contain a direct spiritual or theological message, it demonstrates the meticulous attention to detail in preserving genealogical records within the biblical text.

The genealogies found in the Bible serve various purposes, including tracing lineages, establishing legitimacy, and reinforcing the covenantal promises made by God to His people.

In summary, 1 Chronicles 2:53 provides a glimpse into the families associated with Kirjath-jearim and mentions two specific groups, the Zareathites and the Eshtaulites, who descended from them.

While this verse may not convey a direct spiritual message, it underscores the significance of preserving genealogical records and the historical context of the people of Israel.
