1 Chronicles 7:2

Posted on 18 May at 11:32

“and the sons of Tola; Uzzi, and Rephaiah, and Jeriel, and Jahmai, and Jibsam, and Shemuel, heads of their father’s house, to wit, of Tola: they were valiant men of might in their generations; whose number was in the days of David two and twenty thousand and six hundred.”

Context:The book of 1 Chronicles is a historical account that focuses on the genealogy and lineage of the people of Israel, particularly the twelve tribes. It provides a detailed record of the descendants of Jacob (Israel) and their roles within the nation. Chapter 7 specifically focuses on the genealogies of the tribe of Issachar.

Sons of Tola:Tola was one of the sons of Issachar, who was himself one of the twelve sons of Jacob. The verse mentions the names of Tola’s sons: Uzzi, Rephaiah, Jeriel, Jahmai, Jibsam, and Shemuel. These names represent different generations and families within the tribe of Issachar.

Valiant men of might:The verse describes Tola’s sons as “valiant men of might.” This implies that they were known for their bravery, strength, and courage. They were likely leaders and warriors within their respective generations, known for their valor and abilities.

Number in the days of David:The verse states that the total number of Tola’s descendants during the time of King David was 22,600. This number indicates the size and strength of the tribe of Issachar during David’s reign. It highlights their contribution to the nation of Israel in terms of military power and overall population.

Significance:The genealogical records found in the book of 1 Chronicles serve several purposes. They help establish the lineage of the Israelites, provide historical context, and show the fulfillment of God’s promises to the descendants of Abraham. Additionally, these records highlight the important roles played by various individuals and tribes within the nation, including their military strength.
