1 Chronicles 7:8

Posted on 18 May at 11:32

And the sonnes of Becher: Zemira, and Ioash, and Eliezer, and Elioenai, and Omri, and Ierimoth, and Abiah, and Anathoth, and Alameth. All these are the sonnes of Becher. 1 Chronicles 7:8 (KJV)

Chronicles is a book in the Old Testament that contains genealogical records and historical accounts of the Israelites. This verse specifically mentions the sons of Becher, who was one of the sons of Benjamin, the youngest son of Jacob (Israel).

The significance of genealogies: Genealogies play an essential role in the Bible as they establish connections between individuals and tribes, trace family lines, and reveal the fulfillment of God’s promises. In this verse, the genealogy of Becher, a descendant of Benjamin, is highlighted.

Becher and his descendants: Becher had nine sons mentioned in this verse: Zemira, Joash, Eliezer, Elioenai, Omri, Jerimoth, Abiah, Anathoth, and Alameth. These names represent members of Becher’s family and contribute to the lineage of Benjamin.

Historical and future significance: Genealogies like this one helped maintain records of the twelve tribes of Israel, including their divisions and descendants. These genealogical records were crucial for identifying and maintaining tribal and family inheritances, fulfilling prophecies, and establishing the royal lineage of King David and, ultimately, Jesus Christ.

Importance of ancestral heritage: The mention of the sons of Becher emphasizes the continuity of the Israelite tribes and the preservation of their ancestral heritage. It demonstrates God’s faithfulness in keeping His promises and ensuring the fulfillment of His plans through specific bloodlines.

Overall, 1 Chronicles 7:8 serves as a reminder of the importance of genealogies in tracing the history of God’s people, preserving their heritage, and establishing the foundations for future events and prophecies. It contributes to the larger narrative of God’s redemptive plan and His sovereignty over the course of history.
