1 Chronicles 7:9

And the number of them, after their genealogy by their generations, heads of the house of their fathers, mighty men of valour, was twenty thousand and two hundred.

1 Chronicles 7:9 (KJV)

1 Chronicles is an Old Testament book that records the genealogies and history of Israel. This verse belongs to a genealogical list for the tribe of Benjamin, one of the twelve tribes descended from Jacob. The writer carefully preserved family records because they showed each tribe’s identity and its place among God’s people.

The phrase “after their genealogy by their generations” shows that these men were counted according to their family lines. In ancient Israel, genealogies traced ancestry, confirmed tribal rights, and kept alive the memory of God’s promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The “heads of the house of their fathers” were the leaders of each household. They guided their families, protected the family inheritance, and represented their clan in tribal matters.

The “mighty men of valour” were warriors known for bravery, strength, and skill in battle. Their number, twenty thousand and two hundred, reveals that Benjamin could field a large and capable fighting force. This record emphasizes that the tribe was organized, strong, and ready to defend the nation.

This verse connects with the broader theme in Chronicles of God’s faithfulness to His people through their families and tribes. The careful listing of warriors shows that every family and every person had a role in the life of Israel.

God values order, family heritage, and readiness to serve. Just as these men were counted and prepared, believers today are called to know their spiritual heritage and to be ready to serve God’s people with courage and faithfulness.

This verse reminds us that God sees and records His people. Every believer has a place in His family and a part to play in His purposes.
