1 Chronicles 8:6

And these are the sons of Ehud: these are the heads of the fathers of the inhabitants of Geba, and they removed them to Manahath:

1 Chronicles 8:6 (KJV)

This verse belongs to the genealogical records of the tribe of Benjamin in 1 Chronicles 8. The book traces Israel’s lineages, and this chapter focuses on Benjamin’s descendants. Verse 6 turns to the family of Ehud, whose sons were leaders of the clans living in Geba, a town within Benjamin’s territory (Joshua 18:24). The verse also records that these families were removed to Manahath.

The phrase “heads of the fathers” means these men were the chief leaders of their extended families or clans. The Hebrew wording for “removed” suggests a forced relocation or exile, not a voluntary move. The identity of this Ehud is uncertain; he is likely not Ehud the judge from Judges 3:15, but possibly a son of Huram mentioned in the previous verse. The chronicler records this event without explaining its cause, focusing instead on the fact of the relocation.

The mention of Geba connects this verse to Joshua 18:24, where Geba is listed among the towns of Benjamin. The forced removal to Manahath echoes later exiles in Israel’s history, when disobedience led to displacement. Yet the genealogies themselves show God’s faithfulness in preserving a remnant even through such movements.

This record reminds us that God values family heritage and the continuity of His people. Even when communities face disruption or relocation, God remains sovereign over history. The careful preservation of names and places teaches us to honor our own family histories and to trust God’s purposes in times of change.

Though this verse may seem like a simple list, it testifies to God’s care for ordinary people and their struggles. The sons of Ehud led their families in Geba, then were moved to Manahath. Their story encourages us to serve faithfully wherever God places us, knowing that He records our lives and remains faithful to His promises. This quiet record also reminds us that God sees every generation, even those whose names are not famous.
