Posted on 18 May at 11:30

“And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Ahohite, who was one of the three mighties.”

Context:The book of 1 Chronicles is a historical account that traces the lineage of the Israelites, specifically the genealogy of David and the establishment of the Davidic dynasty. Chapter 11 focuses on the reign of David as king over all Israel and highlights the exploits of his mighty men.

Eleazar, the Son of Dodo:Eleazar was one of David’s mighty men, renowned for his courage, valor, and loyalty. He is mentioned here as one of the three mightiest warriors who served under David’s leadership.

The Three Mighties:The phrase “the three mighties” refers to a select group of David’s most prominent and distinguished warriors. They were renowned for their exceptional bravery and military prowess. The Bible provides various lists of these mighty men in different passages, including 2 Samuel 23:8-39 and 1 Chronicles 11:10-47.

  • Faithfulness and Loyalty:Eleazar demonstrated unwavering commitment to David and his cause. He remained loyal to his king even in the face of adversity.
  • Courage in Battle:Eleazar’s mention among the mighty men indicates his exceptional bravery and courage on the battlefield.
  • Importance of Individual Contribution:Although Eleazar is mentioned among the three mighties, each warrior played a vital role in David’s army.
  • Recognition of Achievements:The Bible records the names and deeds of David’s mighty men, including Eleazar.

Reading about Eleazar and the other mighty men reminds us that God honors faithfulness, courage, and loyalty.
